Murder in the Barracks is an intense military suspense I couldn’t put down.
Title: Murder In The Barracks (The Colonel Zac Madison Series Book 2)
Author: Tamar Anolic
Genre: Military Suspense
Book Blurb:
West Point cadet Brooks Jenson is only months away from graduation, and he does not expect anything to block his path to a productive career in the Army. But when he finds fellow cadet Jed Figueroa murdered, everything takes a turn for the worst. Brooks is a witness who becomes a suspect as the investigation continues.
As Brooks struggles through his classes and every other aspect of cadet life, he leans on friends, family and professors for support- especially Colonel Zac Madison, a heroine of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars who now teaches at West Point. As the investigation into Jed’s death takes one startling turn after another, Brooks must find his footing if he wants to finish West Point alive.
Murder in the Barracks is the sequel to Tamar’s first novel, The Last Battle, which followed Colonel Madison on her journey back to civilian life following her injuries in the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars.

My Review:
Brooks Jenson is so close to graduation from West Point, he can taste it. He’s on the right path to a successful career in the Army. All of his dreams slip through his fingers when he finds cadet Jed Figueroa dead. Murdered. As the investigation continues, Brooks tries to concentrate on his classes and not the fact he’s become a suspect. He looks for support, especially from Colonel Zac Madison, a professor he respects. Brooks will have to stay the course if he wants to graduate and make it out of West Point alive and shackle-free.
Murder in the Barracks is an intense military suspense I couldn’t put down. The descriptive narration is so immersive, I was hooked from the beginning. The setting of West Point is well-researched and almost became a character itself. The investigation had me whipping through the pages. Tamar Anolic added false clues and red herrings to this story. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, another suspect emerged. The characters are realistic and filled with tension. I connected with Brooks.
If you’re looking for a military suspense set at West Point, you’ll want to read Murder in the Barracks. Fans of Stephen Coonts and Lee Child will enjoy this book.
My Rating: 5+ stars

Author Biography:
Tamar Anolic is the author of a number of award-winning books for both adults and younger readers. Many of her books have a military setting. In The Last Battle, Colonel Zahara “Zac” Madison, one of the highest-ranking female officers of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, struggles to adjust to civilian life after being discharged from the Army because of her combat injuries.
Tamar’s Vanguard Warrior Trilogy is military science fiction. The first book, The Fledgling’s Inferno, follows eighteen-year-old Katie McMann as she enrolls in the Corps of Cadets at Norwich University in Vermont- and becomes the first woman to be diagnosed with MH1 gene. In A Silent Evil, Katie becomes a mentor to fourteen-year-old Deion Carter, who is a new student at Valley Forge Military Academy and can read minds. In The Final Armada, twin cadets at Texas A&M, Gael and Isadora Perez, find out that they, too have the gene and its attendant powers- just as they have to decide which side of the battle they will join.
